Chair Charette

A comfortable posture can vary depending on the person sitting in the chair.
In pairs, students were tasked to create and build a full-scale chair. Students first began by studying various chairs and postures. Students then created ten mock models of possible chairs; one design was selected to be focused on. The selected model was then further explored and designed to become full-scale that would be cut from a 4’x8’ sheet of wood.
We were inspired to create a lounge-type chair that could be utilized in various ways with a minimal curving structure. Our chair allows those to sit upright and place objects on a flat surface while leaning onto the low back support; sitters can also rest back fully and lay in a lounge style.
